There is a conceited notion that we have achieved perfection in our domestic evolution. This is evidenced by the incredible changes made to our home kitchens over the past 50 years.

Where there was once a wrought cast-iron oven with a precarious gas switch and a preset flame level, is now a fully computerized all-in-one grill, oven, waffle maker, toaster with unlimited hobs and buttons.

Ponder for just a moment about your kitchen; the microwave sitting above your granite kitchen worktop which can heat anything within 30 seconds; the digital washing machine under the sink and the soft sing of the dishwasher which so eloquently does the work of 3 in just a few minutes. We have blenders, refrigerators, electronic egg beaters and ice cube makers – an avalanche of new accessories and gadgets all in the span of a decade.

50 years after Tesla invented the radio controlled submarine and Ford put his amazing new automobile on the road, there still had not been much development in terms of household utilities. Only the rich were gifted with vacuum cleaners and refrigerators. But the focus was not on providing these to the average home owner.

In the 1980s we saw a change. Women took the stand in businesses and marched forward as a tour de force, leaving the kitchens behind and taking the role of what was thought to be men’s place in society. This brought the immediate need to improve the kitchen and its accessories and make it possible for quick use and accessibility.

The age of servants and household staff has gone. In their place we have seen the development of state-of-the-art kitchens and homes which serve their masters well.
