London Loft Conversions

Loft Conversion LondonThe popularity of loft conversions in London is - pardon the pun - going through the roof! The additional room, literally transforms your home and probability more crucially, adds significant value to the London property. Whilst it is usually a little easier to do a standard extension on a house, a loft conversion will almost certainly put more value on the house.

Sterling's Builders provide a fast and professional service, from providing the architects, pushing through planning and giving you the finish you want.

How we can help you

Sterling Home Improvements will provide you with a team of qualified tradesmen for your Loft Conversion. A Loft or Attic Conversion requires every type of skill, starting from the architect and structural engineer to the placing of new structural beams, fitting electrical and plumbing lines and decorating.

Here's how it will work:

  1. Our estimator will come and visit the property. He is a veteran builder with 25 years experience in the trade. He will thoroughly review the plans and drawings provided by the architect or structural engineer.

  2. Then the sequence of actions and project plan will be discussed with you to work out the best way to go about the project to create minimum disturbance to your living setup as well as the neighbours.

  3. You will receive by email a detailed quote for all the work and general materials. An agreement will be made on who provides what materials. We have many sources for raw material and will be able to provide the bulk of it, such as structural beams, wood floors, tiles, bricks, paint etc. Generally we will ask you to provide any bathroom or kitchen suites.

  4. A project timeline will be worked out between you and the Production Manager, who will be overseeing the loft conversion at all times. You will have a direct line to the Production Manager at all times for any queries or changes your wish to make during the course of the project.

It can be very time consuming, let alone confusing on where to start with an extension or new-build project. We have perfected the system in 7 easy steps and will do it all for you.

Types of loft conversions

Types of Loft Conversions

Dormer Loft

This option is where the existing loft space is of insufficient size for the proposed conversion, it creates additional headroom for the staircase and new room or rooms contemplated. If an additional bathroom is proposed along with the rooms the increased height created by the Dormer provides additional height above the fittings. This one is found most popular in London, as well as feasable.

Rooflight/Velux™ Loft

This option is generally adequate for those contemplating the smaller loft conversion, generally for a single bedroom; study etc, where adequate height is available within the existing loft space. Rooflights can then be installed with a minimum of disruption. London loft conversions should always include some form of natural light from above.

Mansard Loft

This type of conversion is generally designed within the inner London areas, where clients are following the Mansard trend of similar conversions within their locality. This type of conversion was the preferred design a number of years ago, and would most likely be the preferred option from a planning perspective in sensitive areas.

Planning restrictions REMOVED!

Building Regulations
A new law, active from October 1st 2008 has removed many of the restrictions in planning extensions and lofts. See our planning restrictions removed page for more information.
